Massive police operation carried out across Newquay

Concerns over class A drugs spark a massive police operation in Newquay.

A targeted 'Dasy of Action' was carried out on Wednesday in the town centre and in Quintrell Downs.

It followed police and public concerns over the supply of Class A drugs in the town linked to County Lines networks.

Newquay town centre CCTV was used to direct police resources and identify known drug dealers during the course of the operation.

Numerous people were stop checked and searched during the course of the operation.

"A 32-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man were arrested for Possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply after being stop checked by a team of plain clothes officers on the Tram Tracks. Both were interviewed at Newquay police station and released under investigation pending further police enquiries.

"A 30-year-old man was arrested on Mont Wise after being found in possession of a knife. He was interviewed at Newquay police station and bailed until Thursday 4 June pending further police enquiries.

"A 40-year-old man was arrested for driving a vehicle under the influence of a controlled drug in the Lusty Glaze area. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

"A vehicle stop check operation was conducted at Quintrell Downs between 9.30am and 3pm, during which time around 40 vehicles were stopped.

"A motor cycle was subject to a prohibition notice and an Audi driver was found to have not informed the insurer of modifications resulting in the insurance being invalidated.

"This operation was a great success and clearly shows the commitment and resolve of the police to tackle drug dealing in the town."

Newquay officers were supported by officers from the forces Professional Development Unit, the No Excuses Team, the Road Crime Unit, the Proactive Disruption Team and a dog handler.
