Man seriously injured after attack in Newquay

A man has suffered serious injuries after what police believe was an unprovoked attack in Newquay.

The victim suffered a fractured eye socket after being kicked in the head several times on King Street.

Officers say he was targeted by a group of men and women, who snatched his shoes and tried to steal his wallet and phone.

"This was a serious assault on a man by five to six people [group of men and women].

The victim was kicked several times in the head. His shoes were stolen and an unsuccessful attempt was made to take his wallet and phone.

The man is in his 40s and from Newquay. He sustained a fractured eye socket and was taken to Treliske Hospital".

Devon and Cornwall Police

The local policing team is urging anyone who saw something in the early hours of Saturday to come forward.

"Between 04:20hrs and 04:40hrs on Saturday 27th April 2019 a man was attacked and items stolen from him on King Street (next to the Lighthouse Cinema), Newquay.

"This is believed to be an unprovoked attack which left the victim with serious injuries.

"Police which to speak with anyone who has any information about this incident.

"Please call 101 and quote crime number CR/36732/19".
