Police release update after a fatal A38 crash

Police release more details about the serious crash on Cornwall's A38 that claimed a woman's life.

The 69-year-old died and a male driver is seriously injured after two cars hit at Menheniot.

Officers believe one of the vehicles pulled out in front of the other on Thursday afternoon.

The road was closed for over five hours while specialist investigators worked at the scene.

Devon and Cornwall Police are urging anyone who saw something at around 1.30pm to come forward.

"At about 1.30pm in the afternoon of Thursday 9th May 2019, a Volvo was travelling west from the direction of Trerulefoot towards Liskeard when a second vehicle, a Ford Fiesta, pulled out from the B3251, into its path.

"The male driver of the Volvo sustained minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

"The driver of the Fiesta sustained injuries that were described as serious and was conveyed by land ambulance to Derriford Hospital, where he remains receiving treatment.

"His front seat passenger received injuries which proved fatal. Family members are being notified of the collision.

"Officers specially trained in the investigation of serious Road Traffic Collisions attended from Camborne, Bodmin, Plymouth and Barnstaple.

"Police are requesting that any witnesses to this incident make contact quoting the incident number 2019/05/09 - 0393".
