A warning has gone out after fears an illegal rave on Cornish cliffs could have ended in tragedy.

Alcohol and drugs were seized from a big group of teenagers in the St Austell area on Saturday night.

Officers say the 14 to 16-year-olds were extremely close to a cliff edge with a very steep drop.

Police are warning that the combination of alcohol, drugs and the dangerous location could have ended in a 'disaster'.

Now mums and dads are being urged to talk to their teens about the dangers.

St Austell Police says this is approximately a third of what was found, most was disposed of on scene due to being opened already

"Officers responded to an incident last night (11th May) due to concerns that an illegal rave was taking place.

"On arrival a large group of young people between the ages of 14 and 16 were found to be in possession of a significant amount of alcohol, cannabis and drug paraphernalia, all of which were seized or produced to officers.

"All persons were compliant and polite throughout and details were taken by officers equipped with body worn video.

"This incident happened extremely close to some cliffs with a very steep, unfenced drop just yards away from where some of the group were found.

"The combination of alcohol, drugs and a dangerous location could have had terrible results and what was intended as a fun evening for those present could have ended in disaster.

"Please talk to your teenagers about the potential dangers of consuming drugs and alcohol and how it affects their safety when under the influence.

"Officers do not want to be knocking on your door to deliver bad news."
