This giant jellyfish has been found washed up on a beach in west Cornwall.

The barrel jellyfish was discovered by the Environment Agency at Hayle Towans.

Claudine Fontier tweeted the photo, taken by one of their eco-monitoring officers.

The image shows just how big the creature is - next to the officer's foot!

"The start of the Bathing Water Monitoring Season is upon us.

"Officers have been out and about doing pre season sampling.

"Jenny came across this huge Jelly Fish at HayleTowans.

"That's Jenny foot at the bottom of the pic for scale".

And this is not the first enormous barrel jellyfish to be found in Cornwall in recent weeks...

A company that runs small charter boats spotted the creatures over the Easter weekend.

Constance Morris, from Cornwall Coast Photography, captured these incredible shots underwater.

Then kayaker Martin Cowe photographed a bloom of jellyfish back in April.

He says he spotted hundreds between Prussia Cove and Porthleven.
