A swimmer, swept dangerously close to rocks in rough seas on the Lizard, is helped to safety in the nick of time.

The woman was checked over by paramedics after getting caught in a rip at Poldhu on Wednesday.

Coastguard rescuers were scrambled, along with a lifeboat and helicopter which were later stood down.

The team from Mullion say the quick response stopped what could have been a very different ending.

"Team paged at 13:27 to a 52-year-old female swimmer, who had been caught in the rip tide at Poldhu beach.

"The team assembled on the beach in full PFD, with a spotter on the cliff to give clear visual updates to the team.

"The casualty was swept closer to the beach and rocks by the tide, where a member of Mullion Coastguard Rescue Team quickly and safety assisted the casualty back to the shoreline.

"The casualty was passed on to awaiting co-responders (Mullion) and ambulance team, for further assessment.

"This shout could have ended very differently, due to the rough sea condition, but thanks to our quick response time it was a safe ending.

"Both Penlee Lifeboat and 924 SAR were called to scene, but were not needed by this time".
