'Unprovoked attack' leaves young man seriously injured

An appeal has been launched after an assault in Lostwithiel that left a young man with serious injuries.

Police think the victim, in his 20s and from Liskeard, was attacked after a row with another man in the street.

They say he suffered a fractured jaw and broken teeth after being followed and punched on Fore Street.

Officers have described the incident, that happened in the early hours of the Monday before last, as unprovoked.

"This has come from a verbal altercation in the street, provoked by the offender.

"A male offender has then followed and jumped the victim in an unprovoked attack.

"He has been punched and his clothing pulled.

"The 20-year-old man from Liskeard has sustained a fractured jaw plus broken teeth.

 "The victim is out of hospital but still recovering".

St Austell Police also shared information on social media, appealing for witnesses.

Anyone who saw something at around 1am on 6th May is being urged to come forward.

"Police are appealing for witnesses in relation to an incident that happened on Monday 6th May 2019, where a male was assaulted and sustained serious injuries.

"The incident happened on Fore Street, Lostwithiel at approximately 1am on Monday 6th May.

"If you have any information please call 101 and quote crime reference number CR/039804/19".
