Man charged after massive house fire

A man has been charged after a massive house fire in a quiet Cornish village.

Tuesday's blaze in Illogan, near Redruth, scrambled firefighters from St Just to St Dennis.

The flames spread to several properties on Bridge Road but there were no reports of any casualties.

A man was arrested later that evening and has since been charged with arson with intent.

"Police and Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service attended Bridge Road in Illogan, near Redruth, at around 5:30pm on Tuesday 14 May, following a report of a fire at a residential property.

"The fire spread to a number of adjacent properties which were evacuated.

"There are no reports of any casualties, and one man was arrested.

"Police have now charged a man in connection to this incident".

Zak Rodda from Illogan appeared before Bodmin Magistrates on Thursday.

The 32-year-old has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Truro Crown Court on Tuesday 21st May.
