Tragic update after body found on Falmouth beach

Coastguards called to reports of a body on a beach in Falmouth have revealed more details.

Police think the man found below Stratton Terrace was in his 50s and his family has been told.

Now rescue crews have confirmed they also discovered a dead dog in the water nearby.

The Falmouth team recovered an inflatable kayak and paddle down river.

They posted the update, saying their thoughts are with the man's friends and family.

"Team tasked to investigate a report an a person on the foreshore, Stratton Terrace, Falmouth.

"Devon & Cornwall Police, South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust and a S11A - Senior Coastguard Operations Officer where also tasked.

"On arrival it was discovered that sadly, the person was deceased.

"Coastguard officers assisted police with their inquiries and carried out a shore line search to collect further evidence.

"During this search, an inflatable kayak and paddle where recovered a short distance down river and a little further along the beach, the body of a small dog was recovered from the water by Coastguard Officers.

"The gentleman was recovered by Coastguard officers and placed into the care of the coroner and the dog was taken to a local veterinary practice by police officers.

"It goes without saying that our thoughts are with the family and friends of the gentleman at this sad time".
