Appeal to help at-risk Cornish GP practice

Appeal to help at-risk Cornish GP practice

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 2:17pm 20th May 2019.

An appeal has gone out to try and find a new doctor - to help an at-risk Cornish GP surgery.

The future of Mevagissey Surgery is up in the air after a doctor decided to end her contract.

It means 5,300 people could need to find a new surgery.

Locals are campaigning to try and find a replacement - and a protest has been held.

What should patients do?

Letters have gone out patients and NHS England says it is looking at 'alternative options' for those affected.

Bosses say the main priority is to make sure patients are kept up to date with the situation.

At the moment, they should keep using and booking appointments at the surgery as normal.

"Dr James has formally let us know she will end her contract to provide all GP care and will no longer provide GP services at Mevagissey Surgery after 31 July 2019.

"As joint commissioners of Primary Care, NHS England & NHS Improvement and NHS Kernow Clinical Commissioning Group’s immediate priority is to look at alternative options for patients of Mevagissey Surgery and we are working at pace to explore all the possibilities.

"In the meantime, all services continue at Mevagissey Surgery and patients should book and attend appointments as normal. We are writing to patients to inform them of the current situation and will keep them up to date with developments.

"We will also be on hand to talk with patients at a number of drop-in information events over the coming weeks. We encourage patients to come along at any time during these sessions."
