This was the scene after a fire broke out at a beach on the south coast of Cornwall.

Firefighters and coastguard teams got the shout to Vault Beach, Gorran Haven, on Monday evening.

A large blaze could be seen on the edge of the cliff with a lot of dry gorse nearby.

A pump was taken to the beach and used water from the sea to put the flames out.

"The team were paged at 8.30pm along with Mevagissey Coastguard, Portscatho Coastguard and Mevagissey Community Fire Station to reports of a fire at Vault Beach, Gorran Haven.

"Once on scene a large fire could be seen at the edge of the cliff above the east end of the beach.

"Whilst looking likely to burn itself out, there was a large amount of dry gorse near so the decision was made to transit the fire crew's portable pump down to the beach in order to extinguish the flames.

"Coastguard rescue officers assisted the fire service with transporting equipment down the long path to the beach, at which point St Austell Community Fire Station were also paged to assist.

"The pump was set to extract water from the sea, where hoses were connected and carried back up the cliff path. Once the fire was extinguished, the equipment was recovered back to the top of the cliff path.

"A great result and some excellent team work all round, with coastguard and fire service members working hand in hand in less than ideal conditions."
