See the damage as fire breaks out at Cornish beach cafe

This is the scene of the damage after a beach cafe near Falmouth caught fire.

The blaze broke out at Maenporth on Tuesday morning, during half term week.

Firefighters from Falmouth, Truro, Helston, St Just and St Austell were called to the scene at around 10am.

Smoke could be seen billowing across the road and the beach.

Photos appear to show that damage has been caused to the roof of the building but it has not yet been confirmed how serious this is.

Locals have been sending messages of support to the cafe owners on Facebook.

They've called it "heartbreaking".

"At 9.50am Critical Control received multiple emergency calls to a café on fire in the Falmouth area.

"Initially two fire appliances from Falmouth Community Fire Station and two Officers attended the incident where they found the roof of the building fully involved in fire.

"Fire crews attempted to extinguish the fire using four breathing apparatus, a main jet and hosereel."

Update 10.15am: "Make pumps four request was received and further fire crews from Truro and Helston Community Fire Stations were mobilised along with specialist appliances from St Just and St Austell Community Fire Stations."

Update 12.15pm: "Incident has now been scaled down and one appliance from Falmouth Community Fire Station is still in attendance damping down and monitoring the incident.

"A Fire Investigation Team is currently in attendance establishing the cause of the fire."
