The owners of a Cornish beach cafe, gutted by fire, have described that day as devastating.

The team from Life's A Beach at Maenporth say they are blown away by the outpouring of support.

They have praised firefighters who rushed to the scene near Falmouth on Tuesday, as flames tore through the roof.

At its height, firefighters from Falmouth, Helston, Truro, St Just and St Austell were battling the blaze.

Posting to the Life's A Beach Maenporth Facebook page, Leann Wright said they are still in total shock.

She revealed that they will be hoping to have a temporary set-up in the short-term and will keep customers updated.

"A devastating day for myself and James, we are in total shock and need some time to process this.

"We are blown away by the support from local people and visitors from afar. We cannot thank you enough, it means a lot.

"A huge thank you to the fire brigade (blue watch), the Coastguard, The Cove restaurant, Maenporth Electricals, Maenporth Estate, Arvor Sea Kayaking, Falmouth Surf School, Swanpool Beach, all our friends, family, our amazing crew and local people; your offers of help, blankets, coats, teas/coffees and general just supporting us is amazing.

"The cafe survived a storm and although it will take a little longer with plenty of sweat and tears we can sort this too.

"We will be hoping to have a temporary set up for the short term, which we will keep you updated on".
