Police warn fire-hit derelict house ‘could collapse’

Police have issued a warning to the public after flames tore through a derelict house in Bude.

A critical incident was declared when the fire broke out on Marsland View off St Anne’s Hill.

Now Devon and Cornwall Police are asking people not to go near the building, warning it could collapse at any minute.

Officers have also said their could be the risk of asbestos and the site remains cordoned off.

At its height, firefighters from St Just to Holsworthy were battling the blaze and locals were urged to keep doors and windows shut.

“The public are urged not to approach the premises surrounded by police tape in Marsland View, St Annes Hill, Bude, following the fire there yesterday. 

“It is insecure, unstable and liable to collapse. 

“There is also a possible asbestos risk. 

“More secure protection is being arranged, but in the meantime, nobody is to cross the police tape”.
