A flood alert has gone out for the Polperro area because of big high tides.

Officials warn that the tides could be 300mm higher than predicted because of bad weather conditions.

The Environment Agency has warned the risk is higher, because the tidal gate is out-of-action for repairs.

The alert is in place for the south coast, from Gribbin Head to Rame Head on Tuesday evening.

However, we are being told flooding is not expected for the other communities in the area.

"The tide gate at Polperro is not currently operational.

"Flooding is possible on the evening of Tuesday 4th June.

"Force 5 south westerly winds have been forecast and tides are expected to be around 300mm higher than predicted due to weather conditions.

"This may cause flooding of town quay and overtopping of quay walls".
