Weather warning for downpours goes out for Cornwall

A weather warning for downpours has gone out for Cornwall.

The Met Office has issued the alert from 12.30pm on Monday through until 7pm.

Forecasters say the heavy rain could cause flooding and travel disruption.

Up to 30mm could fall within three hours people are being urged to take care on the drive home.

It comes just days after the tail end of Storm Miguel swept through the Duchy bringing wind and rain.

"Flooding possible leading to some transport disruption over parts of southwest England and south Wales Monday afternoon and evening.

"Heavy and slow moving showers have formed over southwest England and south Wales.

"These are generating some large rainfall totals with 15-20 mm in an hour and 30 mm in 2 to 3 hours.

"The showers should start moving more quickly later this afternoon but some impacts may persist into the busy travel period."

  • Bus and train services affected with journey times taking longer
  • Spray and flooding on roads will make journey times longer
  • A few homes and businesses flooded
  • Some interruption to power supplies and other services
