Armed police scrambled to a quiet Cornish town

It has been revealed armed police were scrambled to a quiet town in Cornwall amid concerns for a person's welfare.

Officers were called to reports of a man making threats to harm in Callington.

Negotiators were also scrambled to the scene at New Road just after midday on Monday.

The area was cordoned off as specially trained officers worked to bring the incident under control.

Just after 4pm, a man in his 20s was taken to Derriford in the hands of mental health professionals.

"Police were called just after midday to New Road, Callington, following concerns for the welfare of a male resident making threats to harm.

"Negotiators were at the scene and a cordon was put in place.

"At around 4:15pm, a man in his 20s was taken to Derriford in the hands of the mental health professionals".
