Police leading a murder investigation in a quiet town in Devon have named the pensioner stabbed to death.

Peter Freeman was attacked on the doorstep of his home in Kingsteignton on Sunday evening.

The 73-year-old was rushed to hospital from Chockland Road but, tragically, could not be saved.

Peter's family have paid a heartfelt tribute, saying all those who knew him are deeply affected by his loss.

"Peter was a very special person, taken from us in the most tragic of circumstances. He was a much loved man and his loss has deeply affected all those who knew him.

"We wish to pass on our thanks for the support and kindness shown to us by our friends and the public.

"We would ask the media to respect our privacy at this most difficult time to enable us to come to terms with our grief".

Family Tribute

On Tuesday, detectives said a 42-year-old man found dead in a car at nearby Labrador Bay was their only suspect.

They say his death is not being treated as suspicious and confirmed that Peter Freeman was known to his offender.

A file will be prepared for the coroner and the matter will now be progressed by them in relation to the official cause of the two deaths.
