Fire breaks out at hotel in Cornish village

Guests have had to be evacuated after a hotel fire in a picturesque Cornish fishing village.

Firefighters arrived in Mousehole to find smoke billowing from the building in the early hours of Wednesday.

Crews from Penzance and St Just called in back up from Hayle and Falmouth just before 12.30am.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed 12 guests were safely evacuated to a neighbouring hotel.

"At 0026 hrs Critical Control received several 999 calls stating that there was a fire at a hotel in Mousehole.

"Appliances from Penzance, St Just as well as a wholetime flexi officer were mobilised. 

"On arrival, crews relayed a message that there was smoke issuing and "Make Pumps 4". 

"A further appliance from Hayle, operational support vehicle from Falmouth and the incident control unit from St Just were mobilised. 

"Crews used multiple breathing apparatus sets, hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. 

"12 guests at the hotel were evacuated safely and relocated to a neighboring hotel. 

"The fire was contained to the kitchen area and a fire investigation team will be attending later on this morning".
