'Hero' police officers pull casualty from burning building

Locals have praised the police who pulled a casualty from a burning building in Porthleven.

They have told Pirate FM two officers were first on the scene, as it filled with smoke.

One person was rescued late on Monday night, after being found collapsed behind a door.

The blaze scrambled firefighters from Helston, Mullion and Tolvaddon, as well as the Red Cross.

"I can confirm that police did attend and located a man in the address who they removed to safety and the care of paramedics".

At its height, 22 firefighters were at the scene and the casualty was given oxygen until the paramedics arrived.

"22 firefighters on four appliances from Helston, Mullion and Tolvaddon, along with three crew on the Red Cross Emergency Response vehicle, were mobilised to a property where it was reported the fire alarms were sounding and the occupant was collapsed in the property. 

"Wearing two breathing apparatus crews entered the property with a thermal imaging camera and a hose reel jet, a safety jet was also in use. 

"In the domestic property, firefighters found a casualty collapsed behind a door. 

"Crews administered oxygen to the casualty until the arrival of ambulance paramedics. 

"Firefighters used one hose reel and one safety jet to extinguish the fire".
