'Serious collision' closes main road into Truro

One of the main roads into Truro has reopened after a fatal collision.

An elderly pedestrian and a car collided on Tresawls Road, near Treliske Hospital.

Tragically, the woman who was in her 80s was pronounced dead at the scene.

A stretch of the A390 was shut for over seven hours but both carriageways have since reopened.

On Wednesday morning, police warned drivers to find an alternative route for the "forseeable future".

"Emergency services are currently at the scene following a collision between a vehicle and a female pedestrian on Tresawls Road, near the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske.

"Localised closures are in place".

They added: "Road users are asked to find alternative routes for the foreseeable future".

Devon and Cornwall Police

"Traffic easing, earlier accident investigation work on A390 Tresawls Road Westbound from Chyvelah Vale (Maiden Green Roundabout) to Newbridge View (Treliske Roundabout).

"Road re-opened at around 18:20 after being closed since around 10:00 this morning.

"Accident investigations have been completed following a serious accident that was outside the Royal Cornwall Hospital".
