Strong winds weather warning for Cornwall

The Met Office has issued a two-day weather warning for Cornwall - this time for strong winds.

Forecasters say gusts of up to 50mph could cause disruption on the roads from Thursday.

The yellow alert will come into force from 12.01am and last until 12pm on Friday.

What can we expect?

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely

"Easterly winds will become increasingly gusty on Wednesday night and remain so through Thursday and into Friday.

"Winds will be particularly gusty over and to the west of high ground with gusts reaching 35 to 40mph widely and as high as 45 to 50mph very locally".

What about the 'heatwave'?

The weather warning for wind comes just a day after the Met Office issued a heat health warning and that still stands.

Forecasters are predicting top temperatures in the Duchy of 25C or even higher:

Heat health warning: The level two alert will be in force from 6am on Thursday until 6pm on Saturday.

Wind warning: The yellow weather warning will be in force from 00.00am on Thursday until 12.00pm on Friday.
