A 'critical incident' declared at Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust has been stood down.

Treliske has told Pirate FM it has been able to reduce it from Operational Pressures Escalation Level (OPEL) 4, to level 3.

The Royal Cornwall has been facing extreme pressure and some operations have been cancelled.

It is also understood around 15 ambulances were queuing outside the hospital on Monday.

"Many of the actions taken over the last 48 hours will remain in place to ensure we continue to work together and to get all of our services well placed for the forthcoming summer holidays.

"A huge thank you goes to colleagues across all of the partner health and care organisations for their support and efforts throughout this period, where so many have gone the extra mile to respond to the situation and to keep patients safe.

"We have also had great support from our local communities and would ask them, now and throughout the summer, to continue to make full use of the wide range of services on offer. This includes pharmacies, NHS 111, minor injury units and GPs.

"For full details of all the services available and up-to-the-minute waiting times at units across Cornwall, see our website."
