Driver 'fighting for life' after crash in Tamar Valley

Police say a driver has suffered life-threatening injuries after a crash in the Tamar Valley.

The casualty was airlifted to Derriford after a car and a bus collided between Bere Alston and Gulworthy, near the Cornwall border.

A 21-month-old baby girl was airlifted to Bristol Children's Hospital with what officers describe as serious injuries.

A three-year-old girl escaped with minor injuries after the incident happened on the B3257 on Monday.

Devon and Cornwall Police are urging anyone who saw something just before 3pm to come forward.

"At approximately 1457hrs on Monday 15th July 2019 a serious injury two vehicle road traffic collision occurred on the B3257 between Bere Alston and Gulworthy. 

"A silver coloured Vauxhall Corsa was involved in a collision with a bus. 

"The driver of the bus was uninjured and two passengers were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

"The driver of the Vauxhall Corsa was airlifted to Derriford Hospital with life threatening injuries. 

"There were two passengers in the Corsa, a 3-year-old female taken to Derriford Hospital with minor injuries and a 21-month-old girl airlifted to Bristol Childrens Hospital with serious injuries".

Police added: "The road was closed in total for 6.5 hours for a full forensic investigation. Enquiries are on-going. 

"If anyone witnessed the collision please call 101 and quote log 512 of 15th July 2019".
