Man dies after cliff fall incident on Cornish coast

A man has died after a cliff fall incident on the north Cornwall coast.

Emergency services got the shout to Sandymouth Beach in Bude on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers, paramedics, firefighters, Coastguard rescuers and the air ambulance were all called.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency reported that there was a rock fall.

The family of the man, who was found at the scene and sadly could not be saved, have been told.

"Police were called just before midday with reports of a cliff fall involving a man at Sandymouth Beach in Bude, Cornwall.

"Emergency services attended and sadly the man was confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

"Coastguard and Fire remain the scene and enquiries are ongoing."

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Bude, Delabole and Bodmin were called to "an incident on the cliff involving a rock fall".

They added that police were leading the incident and thanked the local cafe for its support.

In a statement to the BBC, the National Trust, which owns the beach, say staff are deeply saddened.

"We are sorry to hear of the incident at Sandymouth Beach and are supporting the emergency services in their work".
