66 jobs set to go at Warrens Bakery

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 12:32pm 24th July 2019.

More than 60 jobs are set to go at Warrens Bakery.

Pirate FM understands that the redundancies will be in St Just and Plymouth.

Bosses say the bakery chain is undertaking a "restructuring exercise" to help the manufacturing side of the business.

The retail side will be unaffected and around 495 employees will keep their jobs within the reorganised business.

But 66 people within production and distribution have been placed at risk of redundancy.

"We've taken time to explore all options systematically and concluded that this is unavoidable to ensure a stable future for the overall business and its wider workforce.

"Change can be hard, but it's vital that we are fit for purpose in a challenging manufacturing sector, where raw materials, transport and other costs have risen significantly.

"These measures will ensure that Warrens Bakery remains focussed, healthy and a vibrant part of the UK bakery scene going forward."

Warrens Bakery spokesperson

Bosses at Warrens, which is Cornwall's oldest commercial bakery, say the restructuring exercise will 'drive efficiencies in its distribution and manufacturing activities'.

They say these changes will stabilise the manufacturing business, while 'creating an improved platform for its successful retail stores within a challenging economic climate'.
