'Earthquake' felt across west Cornwall

People in west Cornwall have reportedly felt an 'earthquake' as the stormy weather sweeps towards the Duchy.

Several people have told Pirate FM they felt a tremor in the Helston and Porthleven areas.

Some locals have even reported feeling it in places such as Camborne, Redruth, Falmouth and Hayle.

One person said that houses and businesses 'shook'.

It has now been confirmed the British Geological Survey.

They said: "We have had reports that there has been an earthquake in the Helston area of Cornwall.

"We are just looking into this and will keep you posted."

Twitter users have been taking to the internet to share their experience...

Tony lives in Helston, he told Pirate FM:

"I was sat in the lounge and all of a sudden there was a bang and the house shook for about four seconds.

"The house rattled too and it was almost like an explosion. My neighbours felt it too."

Allye said:

"Windows shook for about 15 seconds earlier with a deep vibration which seemed to come from the ground.    

"Half of our street ran outside thinking either a gas explosion or aircraft crash."

Tristan lives in Helston and felt it happen, he told Pirate FM:

"I saw sat down and there was a massive thud like something had fallen on the roof and the house moved.

"You had to experience it to believe it."

Barry told Pirate FM:

"House shuddered and pictures fell of shelf in Breage near Helston Cornwall. All a bit scary."

 

Graeme said:

"We felt it in Helston, I live in a block of flats and heard the boom and the whole flat shook, I thought someone had blown up their kitchen lol! It definitely wasn't thunder."
