Police appeal after serious injury crash in Cornwall

Police have launched an appeal after a crash on a Cornish peninsula that has left a young boy seriously injured.

The 12-year-old was airlifted to Derriford hospital after two vehicles hit at Mile End near the Lizard.

The Coastguard helicopter was scrambled at around 10.15pm on Saturday, along with police, paramedics and firefighters.

A stretch of the A3083 was closed for several hours as investigators worked at the scene.

Firefighters from Mullion and Helston were called to the scene, to find one casualty trapped.

"One appliance from Mullion Community Fire Station and one from Helston Community Fire Station, along with a flexi-duty officer, attended this incident. 

"The incident involved a two-vehicle road traffic collision. 

"The crews made the vehicle safe and assisted police and ambulance to release a casualty from one vehicle. 

"The Coastguard helicopter landed and conveyed the casualty to Derriford hospital".

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service

The Mullion Coastguard Rescue Team helped to prepare an emergency landing site for the rescue helicopter.

"Team paged 23.00 on the 10/08 to provide a Helicopter Landing Site at the scene of a road traffic collision near Mile End, Lizard.

"Once the team organised a site and the helicopter landed the team helped transporting casualties from the ambulance to the helicopter for onwards care".

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or may have been in the area at the time and have dashcam footage, is asked to contact 101, quoting log number 1034 of 10/08/19.
