What's on and when for Falmouth Week 2019

With everything from food and fireworks to singing and stunts in the sky, will Falmouth Week 2019 be the best ever?

The full week of events kicked off this weekend, with the famous Pink Wigs parade to The Wurzels.

The new air show, complete with stunt flights and wing-walkers, is among the highlights still to come.

Your guide to Falmouth Week 2019

Monday 12th - Friday 16th August:

Storytime with Falmouth Library: Free event with Falmouth Library on The Moor, for a variety of family friendly stories each day.

Monday 12th August:

Falmouth Rocks: An evening of rock tribute acts, including AC/DC UK, Guns2Roses and Wrong Jovi. This is a ticketed event starting at 7pm.

Tuesday 13th, Wednesday 14th, Thursday 15th August:

Family Art Workshops: The free workshops on The Moor will be led by Falmouth Art Gallery and they are inspired by its 'Stuff and Nonsense' exhibition. Each day has a different activity: Fairy Gardens, Curious Creatures and Odd Portraits!

Tuesday 13th - Saturday 17th August:

Music on The Moor: Free music on The Moor, along with street food. The events will feature some of the region's up and coming acts. Last year saw St Ives teenager Molly Hocking wow the crowds before going on to win The Voice 2019.

Tuesday 13th August:

The Mariachis: The Mariachis are described as a four-piece South American group singing favourite pop classics with a Mexican twist. This is a ticketed event and doors open at 7pm.

Wednesday 14th August:

Falmouth Week Air Show:

The air show for Falmouth Week 2019 is being dubbed one of the best ever, with three aerobatic display teams flying into Falmouth

The free air show will take place on Falmouth seafront (Cliff Road) from 5.45pm - 6.45pm, subject to weather and CAA approvals.

Three aerobatic display teams will be flying into Falmouth for an hour of stunts and manoeuvres from The Blades, AeroSuperBatic WingWalkers and the Strikemaster Pair 

The best viewing points include Pendennis Point, all along Cliff Road, Castle Beach, Gyllyngvase Beach, Swanpool Beach and Boscawen Fields.

Roads in Falmouth Town Centre will be pedestrianised on Wednesday 14th August from 11am to 11pm - no traffic will be allowed through the town.

Church Street Car Park and Custom House Quay Car Park will be closed all day.

Falmouth seafront will be closed to traffic from 3pm on Wednesday 14th August.

Visitors are being urged to use public transport where possible.

Family Fun Day: Free family events throughout the town, including workshops on The Moor with Falmouth Art Gallery, the RNLI on the Quay at Custom House Quay, Falmouth Week Air Show over Falmouth seafront, live music on The Moor and The Rockpool Project on The Moor with their mobile rockpool and live sea creatures.

Action Sports Tour at Church Street Car Park: This is a free event in Church Street Car Park, with display times at 12.30pm, 2pm, 3.15pm and 4.30pm. The displays include mountain bike trials, freestyle and flatland BMX, skateboarding, mountain bike jump riding, inline skating, freerunning and scooter riding. Have-a-go taster sessions are also on offer.

The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show: The actor, broadcaster and funk and soul DJ will put on an evening of musical entertainment in Events Square. This is a ticketed event and doors open at 7pm.

Thursday 15th August:

Ska Night: Ska groups Rudi's Message and The Dualers will perform in Events Square. This is a ticketed event and doors open at 7pm.

Friday 16th August:

Science in the Square: The science event by University of Exeter runs from 10am - 4pm at Events Square. The theme for the interactive workshops is Hidden Worlds. You can challenge university experts with your questions about fluorescence, underwater robots, the Antarctic ocean and microorganisms! It has seven different zones: Adventure Zone, Bone Zone, Marine Zone, Live Zone, Mini Beast Zone, Earth Zone, Craft Zone
The interactive sessions are:

  • 12.30pm Living Light: The Hidden World of Fluorescence
  • 1.30pm: Exploring The Oceans' Hidden World With Robots
  • 2.30pm: The Hidden World Of The Antarctic Ocean
  • 3.30pm: The Hidden World Of Microorganisms

Epic 80's vs 90's Extravaganza:

The 80s/90s Extravaganza is one of the highlights for Falmouth Week, with the theme of 80s/90s icons, neon power and big smiles!

This is a ticketed event featuring a DJ set with Spandeau Ballet's Martin Kemp and a live performance from S Club. The event is strictly over-18s only. The dress code is 80s/90s icons, neon power and big smiles! It is happeneing at Events Square and the doors open from 7pm.

Falmouth Week Fireworks: The event will take place in Falmouth Harbour and it begins at 10pm.

Viewing points include all along Falmouth Harbour, Events Square, Custom House Quay, Prince of Wales Pier and the Docks Lookout Point.

Important: display will be postponed to Saturday 17th August if the weather is poor.

Saturday 17th August:

The Bohemians: A Night of Queen: The Queen tribute act will perform in Events Square, along with special guests U2UK, playing all of U2's greatest hits. This is a ticketed event and doors open from 7pm.

Sunday 18th August:

Falmouth Lifeboat Quay Service: The annual service in aid of the RNLI will take place on Custom House Quay at 6pm. The lifeboat is open to the public after the service.

Dragon Boat Racing: Teams will compete in Dragon Boats in Falmouth Harbour on Sunday, in what is described as a fun-filled, adrenaline-pumping water sports activity. The event is raising funds for Ladies Aloud, in aid of Alzheimer's Society. The teams will need to arrive at 9am and the racing starts at 10am. Jethro and The Oggymen: A night of comedy and Cornish singing in Events Square. This is a ticketed event and doors open at 6pm.
