Person 'hit by train' in Devon has died

It is understood a person found dead on the main rail line from Cornwall to London was hit by a train.

British Transport Police were called to the stretch at Stoke Canon near Exeter just after 11.30am on Monday.

They had reports of a casualty on the tracks and have since confirmed one person has died.

The incident sparked delays between Exeter St David's and Tiverton Parkway is not being treated as suspicious.

"Officers were called to the lines in Stoke Canon at 11.36am this morning (12/08) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are currently working to identify them and inform their family.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner".

Network Rail has since confirmed that the incident has cleared.
