Young woman sexually assaulted in St Austell

Police are investigating a serious sexual assault in St Austell.

Officers say a woman in her 20s was targeted in Cemetary Park in High Cross Street.

It happened in the early hours of Sunday 11th August and investigators are checking CCTV.

They are also carrying out door-to-door enquiries to try to identify the suspect.

The attacker is not believed to be known to the victim, who is being supported by specialist officers.

Devon and Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses to what is being treated as an isolated incident.

“Both the victim and suspect were on foot at the time of the incident.

"Local officers have been carrying out a number of enquiries, since this allegation was first reported to us, including CCTV and house-to-house enquiries, in order to identify the suspect.

”I’d also like to reassure the public that this matter is currently being treated as an isolated incident.

“I’d encourage anyone with any relevant information and anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward and speak to police".
