Body found on beach IS a missing man from Newquay

A body found on a beach in north Cornwall has been confirmed as a missing man from Newquay.

Michael Barclay was last seen in the Porth area on Tuesday 6th August.

Police had launched an urgent appeal, asking anyone who saw the 76-year-old to call 999 straight away.

Now officers have confirmed a body found near Padstow has been formally identified as Michael Barclay.

The discovery was made at Constantine Bay just before 8am last Friday morning.

"Police were called to Constantine Bay, Padstow at 7.45pm on Friday 16th August, following reports that the body of a man had been located on the beach.

"Formal ID has now taken place and it has been confirmed that the body was that of Michael Barclay, who had previously been reported as missing from the Newquay area".

The death is being treated as unexplained and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
