Woman dies after being pulled from water

A woman has died after a reported 'diving incident' off the coast of Cornwall.

Police say it is understood that she was pulled from the water at St Keverne, on the Lizard.

Coastguard teams, an RNLI lifeboat and the search and rescue helicopter were called to the scene.

The casualty was airlifted to Treliske Hospital on Wednesday but sadly she could not be saved.

"HM Coastguard responded to a report from a dive vessel of a diver in difficulty.

"Falmouth RNLI lifeboat and Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team were sent, along with HM Coastguard's helicopter from Newquay.

"The lifeboat crew and the winchman went onto the vessel and the casualty was then winched by the helicopter and transported on to the Royal Cornwall Hospital Treliske.

"Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team manned an alternative landing site as a precaution but were not needed."

Officers have confirmed that she was in her 50s and from Oxfordshire, and her family knows.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained.

"Police have been informed of the death of a woman at Royal Cornwall Hospital on Wednesday 28th August.

"It's understood that the woman was pulled from the water at St Keverne earlier in the day.

"A woman in her 50s from, Oxfordshire, was confirmed deceased in hospital. Her next of kin are aware.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
