Police appeal after 'serious-injury' crash near St Austell

Police are appealing for clues after a crash near St Austell left a young man with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Three casualties were rushed to hospital after two cars hit on the A391 at Carclaze.

A local man in his 20s has since been transferred to Derriford.

Officers say he remains in a critical condition.

The collision happened early on Monday morning, closing the road for over eight hours.

Devon and Cornwall Police want to hear from anyone who saw something at around 6.45am.

"Witnesses are sought to a serious collision in Carclaze, St Austell, yesterday morning [9TH September] in which three people were injured, one critically.

"Emergency services were called at 6.45am following the collision between a silver BMW, a blue Fiat 500 Abarth and a grey Audi A3 on the A391.

"Three people sustained injuries and were taken to Treliske hospital.

"The driver of the Audi, a man in his 20s from St Austell, sustained potentially life-threatening injuries and was later transferred to Derriford hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

"The BMW driver, a man in his 40s from the Par area, and his male passenger were both treated for minor injuries.

"The Fiat driver was uninjured.

"Police closed the road for eight-and-a-half hours while a specialist examination of the scene took place.

"Officers from the Roads Policing Team attended and are appealing for witnesses as part of the investigation into the collision".

Witnesses to the collision are requested to contact police with any relevant information via 101@dc.police.uk or by phone on 101, quoting log number 108 of 09/09/19.
