'Serious crash' closes a main road near Truro

One of the main roads in and out of Truro, shut in both directions after a serious crash, has reopened.

Police say two cars collided on the A390 at Probus, near the Mercedes dealership.

Officers have confirmed a woman has died.

Three others have suffered minor injuries.

The air ambulance, paramedics and firefighters were also at the scene.

The stretch between the junctions for Waitrose and Tregony Road was closed at around 11.30am but has since reopened.

"Emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious collision on the A390 at Probus in Cornwall.

"Police, fire and ambulance were called at 10.30am today [10 September] following the collision between two cars close to the Mercedes-Benz dealership.

"One woman is in a serious condition following the collision and three other people have sustained minor injuries.

"The A390 has been closed by Waitrose [A390 junction with A39] and at Tregony Road.

"The road is likely to remain closed for some time and motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being".

Devon and Cornwall Police

"A390 in both directions closed, slow traffic due to accident from Merther turn-off (Tresillian) to A3078 (Probus).

"Congestion to Probus as traffic diverts around the closure.

"The accident is reportedly at the junction near the car dealership".

The road has since re-opened.
