A fire has broken out at a hotel on the edge of Newquay.

Crews from the town and Padstow were called to reports of smoke at the Sands Resort.

It started between the ground and first floors but bosses say there was no damage to the building.

They have told Pirate FM guests were safely evacuated on Thursday night and confirmed no-one was injured.

"Two appliances from Newquay attended a call to alarms sounding and smoke sighted in the building.

"On the arrival of the fire service to the property a request that a third fire appliance was made.

"A third fire appliance from Padstow was mobilised to the scene.

"The hotel was on three floors and measured circa 60 metres x 20 metres.

"Firefighters tackled a fire in a void between the ground and first floor using two breathing apparatus, one hose reel, one extinguisher and a thermal imaging camera".
