More details released after fire at Newquay hotel

It has been confirmed that there was no damage to a hotel in Newquay after a fire.

Bosses at the Sands Resort on Watergate Road say all guests were safely evacuated.

They have told Pirate FM it was caused by a freak accident due to hot work on the roof.

The fire broke out between floors and the smoke came from a smouldering piece of wood.

Crews from the town and Padstow were scrambled just before 8pm on Thursday evening.

"The fire was caused by a freak accident due to hot work undertaken on the roof yesterday.

"The smoke came from a small piece of wood that was smouldering and thanks to the quick attendance of the fire services could be put out quickly.

"All guests were safely evacuated and later led back into the hotel when the fire services had confirmed it was safe to do so.

"There was no damage caused to the hotel other than one room that was unoccupied being a little smoky".
