Massive fire breaks out on edge of Newquay

This was the moment a huge fire broke out on the edge of Newquay.

Worried locals shared photos of the billowing smoke on social media.

The plumes could be seen for miles after the blaze broke out in a field on Saturday.

Crews were scrambled to the Trencreek area, to discover the flames had engulfed around four acres of dry grass.

Firefighters managed to douse the fire, before staying to keep an eye for any hotspots.

“At 16:06 the Critical Control Centre received multiple calls from members of the public, stating that a fire had been sighted in a field.

“Two appliances from Newquay and an officer were mobilised to the incident.

On arrival, crews discovered approx. four acres of dry grass on fire.

“Firefighters are using beaters and a hose reel to extinguish the fire.

“The fire has now been extinguished. However, crew are remaining on scene to monitor and deal with further hotspots”.
