Police called to reports of man with a weapon in Newquay

Police have been scrambled to Newquay amid reports of a man with a weapon.

It happened at around 10pm on Sunday night in the Mount View area.

Officers say there was a 'verbal altercation' at an address and then later an assault was reported.

Negotiators were called and a 26-year-old local man was arrested.

He currently remains in custody.

"Police were called at around 10pm to Mount View, Newquay following reports of a verbal altercation at an address. Police attended and spoke to those involved.

"Having left the address, a short time later, police received a further call reporting an assault and a man to be in possession of a weapon at the address.

"Units, including a police negotiator attended and following negotiation, officers gained entry to the property.

"A 26-year-old man from Newquay was arrested on suspicion of affray and common assault. He remains in police custody at this time."
