Plans to build 52 new homes, all of which will be affordable, on the site of a former care centre have been recommended for approval.

Cornwall Council has applied for permission to build the homes on the site of a former Murdoch and Trevithick Centre on land north of Drump Road in Redruth.

The old care centre buildings have since been demolished and the site is considered to be brownfield.

Every home on the development would be affordable, with half the properties being available for affordable rent and the other half for shared ownership.

Planning officers have recommended the plans be approved when they go to the west sub-area planning committee on Monday (September 23rd).

The planned new homes range from one-bedroom flats to a five-bedroom house. There would be nine flats, two bungalows and and 41 houses on the development. One of the bungalows would be wheelchair accessible.

Cornwall Council’s affordable housing team has backed the development saying that it will help Redruth, which is an area of high housing need.

Redruth Town Council has also supported the plans but asked that there are parking restrictions so cars can only be parked in the designated areas.

The town council has also asked that energy efficiency measures should be included for the new homes with things like solar panels.

The west sub-area planning committee will meet in Camborne to decide whether to grant planning permission.
