Man airlifted after falling 20 - 30ft down Cornish cliff

A man who fell up to 30ft down cliffs in north Cornwall has been airlifted to hospital.

Coastguard rescuers say the casualty suffered a head injury at Pine Haven near Port Isaac.

The teams from Polzeath and Boscastle were involved in a multi-agency rescue on Wednesday.

The Coastguard helicopter, Cornwall Air Ambulance and the Port Isaac lifeboat were also scrambled.

"Team paged to reports of a male who had fallen down a cliff approx 20-30ft and sustained a head injury.

"Cornwall Air Ambulance were already on scene and assessing the casualty condition. 

"Team members immediately provided assistance and support along with Port Isaac RNLI who had dropped two crew members ashore. 

"Due to the nature of casualty position, HM Coastguard helicopter, Rescue 924, was requested and launched from Newquay.

"Boscastle Coastguard Team was also tasked to provide assistance and a HLS.

"As Rescue 924 arrived, Cornwall Air Ambulance relocated to the clifftop to allow Rescue 924 to lower their winch man. 

"Once on the ground he helped the paramedics, our team members and the two lifeboat crew package the casualty for winching. 

"He had sustained a nasty head injury along with a suspected broken leg and ankle. 

"He was winched into the coastguard helicopter and after a quick touch down to pick up the casualty's wife he was transferred to hospital".
