Cornwall Council has issued a statement after more of an open mineshaft in St Ives collapsed.

Residents on the Garth-an-Creet estate reported hearing fresh rumbles over the weekend.

The car park pit has been cordoned off for over a year and locals have branded it a danger to children and pets.

Officials insist the responsibility does not lie with the council but have promised an investigation is underway.

"The mine workings are in a private car park and we have fenced off the area and informed the management company.

"As it is on private land we are investigating who has responsibility to fit a barrier at the site and we are working to ensure this work will be undertaken by the correct parties".
