The new 'stop smoking' messages at Treliske

From now on, you can expect to hear warnings like these at Cornwall's biggest hospital.

School children have recorded stop smoking messages for the tannoy at Treliske.

They are being be played outside the maternity unit to flag up the dangers for babies.

Midwifery matron Trudie Roberts hopes it will encourage more and more people to kick the habit.

"Healthier mums, healthier babies and it's most important for the first 1001 days of a child's life to be in its best health potential.

"So if they're not in a home surrounded by carbon monoxide, they've got nice clean air in their lungs and a child will thrive much better.

"For every 225 pregnancies, one baby will be born stillbirth.

"You're 47% more likely to have a stillborn baby if you smoke during your pregnancy or if you're in a house with passive smoking".
