Runner airlifted to hospital on the Cornish coast

A runner has been airlifted to hospital after suffering a head injury on the north Cornwall coast.

The air ambulance, paramedics and coastguard crews all got the shout to Greenaway Beach, near Polzeath on Thursday morning.

The man had tripped and fallen above the beach and suffered minor leg wounds as well as a nasty injury to his head.

A safe landing site was cleared for the helicopter and the casualty was taken to Treliske for treatment.

"Full team page to a male runner who had tripped and fallen above Greenaway beach and sustained a nasty head injury and minor leg wounds.

"We were first emergency service on scene, assisted by a very helpful first informant and directed the Cornwall Air Ambulance to a safe landing site and cleared the area for a safe landing.

"The runner was then attended to by the helicopter medics and land ambulance crew and flown to Treliske hospital.

"If you spot anyone in difficulty or in danger along our coast, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard, this also includes emergencies where the lifeboat is required; the coastguard will deploy the appropriate emergency services".
