Man's body washes up on beach in Cornwall

A man's body has washed up on a beach in west Cornwall.

Police say the tragic discovery was made in Marazion at around 9am on Tuesday morning.

Paramedics and officers were called to the scene but sadly the man could not be saved.

Formal identification has not yet taken place but the family of missing Carl Young from Coventry has been told.

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that the death is currently being treated as unexplained.

"Police were called to Leys Lane, Marazion, at around 9am this morning (Tuesday 24th September) following reports the body of a man had washed up on the beach. 

"Officers and ambulance attended and the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

"Formal identification is yet to take place. 

"The family of Carl Young, reported missing from Coventry, have been notified of the discovery. 

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained and a file is being prepared for the coroner".

Devon and Cornwall Police

Coastguard crews, called to help recover the body, say their thoughts are with the man's family and friends.

"We were tasked today Tuesday the 24th of September at 9.33am by Falmouth Coastguard Operations Centre at the request of Devon & Cornwall Police.

"A male had been found on the sea’s edge on the shore at Town Beach Marazion.

"With South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust paramedics also on scene, we were requested to utilise the teams coastguard stretcher to convey the male from the beach to an waiting ambulance.

"Having carried the male on the stretcher over sand and rocks he was transported to the Royal Cornwall Hospital Treliske for further examination.

"Once complete the team were free to return to station.

"Our thoughts go with the family and friends of the gentleman".
