Incident in Plymouth leaves a boy seriously injured

Police have confirmed a 12-year-old boy is seriously injured after an incident in Plymouth.

The youngster remains at Derriford after officers were called to reports of an explosive device.

The bomb squad was also scrambled to the Whitleigh area on Monday night.

Several properties in the area were searched and a a number of devices have been seized.

Devon and Cornwall Police say there is no evidence to suggest that the incident is linked to terrorism.

A 16-year-old boy and a man in his 60s were arrested and have since been released on bail.

"Following an incident last night, a number of searches have taken place in the area of Lewes Gardens today and a cordon remains in place.

"Searches are expected to remain ongoing over the next two to three days in relation to this matter.

"I'm keen to provide reassurance that there is no risk to the public and that there is no evidence to suggest that the incident is linked to terrorism".

A 16-year-old boy from Plymouth was arrested on suspicion of possession of an explosive with intent to endanger life. He has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

A 64-year-old man from Plymouth was arrested on suspicion of making/possessing explosive with intent to endanger life. He has been released on police bail until 23rd October.
