Flood alert for Cornwall as wet weather continues

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 12:49pm 25th September 2019.

A flood alert has gone out for Cornwall as the wet weather continues.

The Environment Agency has issued one for the Upper River Tamar.

It means flooding is possible for Bude, Helebridge, Bridgerule, Canworthy Water, Launceston and Yeolmbridge.

Advice on how to stay safe:

  • People are advised to stay away from risk areas.
  • Keep up to date with weather and tide conditions on local radio.
  • Officials will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as required.

It comes as the Met Office predicts more bad weather as the tail end of Hurricane Humberto sweeps the UK.

Heavy rain and strong winds are expected to lash Cornwall over the next few days.

It looks like the worst of the wet and windy weather will arrive in the south-west from Thursday onwards.

There are no official weather warnings in force for the rest of the week but it is looking pretty unsettled.
