Alleged serious assault in tent on Cornish beach

A woman has allegedly been seriously assaulted in a tent on a beach in Cornwall.

Police say the incident reportedly happened at Porthminster in St Ives last week.

The victim is a woman in her 30s from the Somerset area.

Officers say a local man has been arrested and remains in custody, awaiting questioning.

Anyone who saw what happened between the evening of Wednesday 18th September and the early hours of Thursday 19th September is asked to contact officers.

"Police have arrested a man following a serious assault that is alleged to have taken place on a beach near St Ives.

"The assault is believed to have taken place between the evening of Wednesday 18th September and the early hours of Thursday 19th September on Porthminster Beach, St Ives.

"The victim, a woman in her 30’s from the Somerset area, was assaulted within a tent which was on the beach.

"Police have since arrested a local male in his 30’s in connection to this incident and he remains in police custody at this time and awaits further questioning."

Police are appealing for witnesses and would like to hear from anyone who was in the area, and with particular interest in any activity around an orange and grey in colour tent that was pitched on the beach.
