One of the main roads in north Cornwall has reopened after what was being described as a serious crash.

A car and a lorry were caught in the collision on the A395 at Pipers Pool near Launceston.

Firefighters say one casualty had to be cut free in the early hours of Friday.

Police confirmed a female driver was checked over for minor injuries and the lorry driver suffered a leg injury.

"Critical Control received reports of a multi-vehicle road traffic collision.

"Fire Crews from Launceston, Bodmin and Delabole Community Fire Stations and an Officer were mobilised to the incident.

"On arrival they found one person trapped in one of the vehicles.

"Firefighters rescued one person using crash rescue equipment and now in the care of the ambulance service.

"The police have closed the road, which may remain closed for some time".

A second collision involving an overturned truck had blocked the lane at Polyphant, near Davidstow airfield.

It is understood the vehicle was following the diversion route but police say no-one was injured.

However, police have since confirmed that both roads have reopened.

"The A395 in both directions has reopened after an accident.

"A car and a lorry were involved from A30 (Kennards House, Kennards House) to B3262 (Hallworthy)".

"The road was closed at 02:30am".
