Boy expected to make full recovery after Plymouth 'incident'

Police are continuing to carry out searches after a 12-year-old boy was seriously injured following an incident in Plymouth.

Officers were called to reports of an incident involving an explosive device in Whitleigh on Monday night.

The youngster was taken to Derriford Hospital with injuries and has now been discharged.

He is back home and is expected to make a full recovery.

Officers investigating, along with the Royal Navy EOD team, attended and searched properties in the area and seized a number of devices.

Devon and Cornwall Police say there is no evidence to suggest that the incident is linked to terrorism.

"We have carried out a number of searches in the Whitleigh area which are expected to remain ongoing until Sunday afternoon. 

"The public may see officers dressed in protective clothing due to the nature of the incident.

"I would like to reassure the people that there is no risk to the public and that there is no evidence to suggest that the incident is linked to terrorism."

A 16-year-old boy from Plymouth was arrested on suspicion of possession of an explosive with intent to endanger life. He has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

A 64-year-old man from Plymouth was arrested on suspicion of making/possessing explosive with intent to endanger life. He has been released on police bail until 23rd October.
